With a population of over 230,000 and a range of fascinating attractions, Magdeburg is a diverse city and the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Around 12,000 people move there every year and appreciate not only the diverse cultural offerings, the beautiful banks of the Elbe, the restaurants and cafés, but also the distinctive character of the various residential neighbourhoods.
Whether it’s a quiet detached house on the outskirts, a lively apartment block in the north of the city, or a historic villa from the Gründerzeit era right in the city centre: our overview map will show you what makes each neighbourhood unique and which ones might suit you best.
Particularly popular among Magdeburg’s 40 districts are Alte Neustadt, Altstadt and Stadtfeld Ost. They are characterised by their proximity to the city centre and their architectural charm. Amidst historic buildings and modern residential blocks, there are many cafés, bars and restaurants where the people of Magdeburg gather.
