Full steam ahead with wool

Dear members,

‘mieteinander’ was quickly rebranded as ‘MÄHGAZIN’, and more than half of you thought it was a good idea. 55 per cent of those who took part in the survey voted for the new name and the slogan ‘Well looked after in the spirit of co-operation’. To be honest, we’re really pleased about that. Because there’s more to the play on words than just humour: it paints a picture of how community works. In our view, our co-operative is a flock that sticks together at all times, and a members’ magazine that can reflect that.

Anyone who has set the coffee table for us at Kannenstieg over the last few weeks and been presented with the ‘Golden Slippers’ with a beaming smile knows what it feels like to be part of a close-knit community: appreciation doesn’t end once the tenancy agreement has been signed. But who actually wants to know what YOU think?! It’s obvious: WE do. We’re asking for your opinion again, as around 50 per cent of DSW members living in the complex have had questionnaires drop through their letterboxes. So please do take a few minutes to fill one in. It makes a difference: the new lighting in the stairwells, for example. That was installed because you told us there was a need for it. The more members who reply, the clearer we can see where the problems lie.

Following the summer break for HAUSBESUCHE 3.0, the series continues on 18 August 2026, this time with a film screening. In the courtyard of Hanns-Eisler-Platz, we’ll make ourselves comfortable with popcorn and picnic blankets. As dusk falls, our first DSW summer cinema will begin. And the film will remain a secret right up until the last minute.

For those who would like to do more to protect their own safety: Saxony-Anhalt Police is running an exhibition on fake news and deepfakes as part of the ‘Prevention 50+’ initiative. This is an issue that affects us all, particularly as AI-generated speech and fake images are becoming increasingly difficult to spot in everyday life – read more on page 7.

At DSW, sustainability doesn’t just end up as a page-long report gathering dust in a drawer. In this issue, we’ll show you what the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals entail. What measures are we developing as a result? For example, energy-efficient LED lighting in stairwells and communal areas, switching off the heating in summer, and modernisation and refurbishment with a focus on renewable energy: this is sustainability that benefits us all. The voluntary sustainability reporting system we’re currently setting up highlights these connections: where are we saving energy? Where are we improving quality of life? Where are we investing so that the next generation can still enjoy a good quality of life? You’ll find the answers to these questions in future issues of our members’ magazine.

Kind regards,

Jörg Koßmann & Jens Schneider
