Location

Sudenburg is Magdeburg’s oldest district and covers an area of around 5 km² in the south-west of the city. Today, it is one of the most popular neighbourhoods, not least because of the many shops and cafés along Halberstädter Straße.

Sudenburg used to be a town in its own right, which was incorporated into Magdeburg in 1867. The old town centre was situated around Ambrosius Church, which remains a popular meeting place to this day and continues to bring together Sudenburg’s 18,058 residents (as of 2019). Sudenburg is not only the oldest but also one of the most attractive districts in Magdeburg. Its location and infrastructure mean that everyday journeys are short. Thanks to the varied architecture – ranging from modern Gründerzeit buildings to old industrial structures and city villas – there are flats here to suit every taste.

Sudenburg is popular not only for its varied architecture from the Gründerzeit era and historic factory complexes, but above all for its attractive location. The tram and transport links allow you to reach all of Magdeburg’s key locations in no time.

Sudenburg itself also has plenty to offer: the well-known Halberstädter Straße runs through the residential area from the Old Town to the border with Ottersleben and attracts visitors with its numerous small shops, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The fire station on Ambrosiusplatz hosts events, concerts, readings and workshops almost every day, making Sudenburg particularly popular with young residents – it’s never a dull moment here. Older residents and young families also appreciate Sudenburg for its wide range of shopping facilities, medical centres, schools and nurseries, doctors’ surgeries/pharmacies, shopping facilities, family-friendly environment, schools and nurseries, and its abundance of green spaces.
