Location

Neu Olvenstedt is one of Magdeburg’s more recent districts and covers an area of around 3 km² in the north-west of the city. The foundation stone for the first residential complex in Neu Olvenstedt was laid in 1981. Strolling along the boulevard, sleeping without traffic noise, yet still reaching the city centre quickly by tram – that was the aim of the new district. Even today, the 11,387 residents (as of 2020) appreciate the traffic-calmed location on the outskirts of the city, the new tram line to the city centre, the numerous local shopping facilities and the lively atmosphere of this well-populated neighbourhood. The wide range of nurseries, schools and leisure facilities makes Neu Olvenstedt an ideal place for families to live. As the neighbourhood is situated further out on the outskirts, children can grow up in peace and quiet here, whilst the city centre remains easily accessible by public transport. Numerous discount supermarkets and shopping centres cater to every need, and the local healthcare provision, with several medical centres, is also highly valued by the residents of Neu Olvenstedt. Thanks to a regeneration programme, the area has also been given a new lease of life in recent years: whilst Neu Olvenstedt struggled with a negative reputation in the 1990s, the district has now become more modern, attractive and family-friendly as a result of the regeneration. The residents of Neu Olvenstedt particularly appreciate the neighbourhood’s green spaces, such as the adjacent ‘Flora-Park’. Children enjoy the many playgrounds. A particular highlight is the Rennebogen climbing playground. Those who enjoy sport can meet up at the indoor swimming pool, the outdoor pool or the skate park, or go for a run in the countryside.
