Location

The Reform district is situated in the south-west of Magdeburg and covers an area of around 3 km², home to just under 11,800 residents (as of 2019). What makes Reform special is that: The residential area was developed between 1911 and 1938 as an early example of the garden city movement. The aim at the time was to create social housing in a green setting: small, functional flats with a kitchen garden for self-sufficiency. And that is precisely what still characterises this district of Magdeburg today. The terraced houses with flat roofs and the use of colour are characteristic of Magdeburg-Reform and make the district instantly recognisable.

From 1938 onwards, the area was expanded with the ‘Planetensiedlung’, which has a particularly idyllic feel thanks to its larger detached and terraced houses. In 1990, the Karl-Liebknecht estate was built, which is also known as the ABC estate due to its street names – which consist solely of letters. Thanks to its architectural diversity, Reform is a vibrant residential area where a wide variety of residents feel at home.

Reform is a purely residential area and, in addition to its peaceful location, is particularly appealing due to its good infrastructure. With several tram and bus routes, the neighbourhood is connected to Magdeburg’s transport network, meaning you can reach the city centre in just a few minutes.

You’ll also find Bördepark, a large shopping centre, right nearby. In the centre of Reform, you’ll discover numerous shops and service providers. The neighbourhood is also popular with young families, as there are several nurseries and schools in Reform., GPs/pharmacies, shopping facilities, family-friendly, dog-friendly, public transport links, schools and nurseries, very green, playground
